Shibuya: Blue Tea room in Dry Landscape Garden (Circular Window)

2013

Cardboards picked up at Shibuya, empty cans, acrylic paint, acrylic plate

53×53(cm)

Private collection

At the same time as the folding screen, I made this circular painting referencing the yoshinomado, or circular window, that I saw at the Tofuku-ji Komyoin Temple in Kyoto. The outer layer is framed with an acrylic sheet while the inner layer behind it depicts a lattice pattern. This piece uses the dual imagery of a circular window’s bamboo lattice seen at a temple, and of a fence representing exclusion and division.
